Antes de passear pelas ruas do Cais da Ribeira fomos contemplando uma das zonas mais interessantes da cidade de outros pontos como Vila Nova de Gaia ou o Miradouro do Mosteiro da Serra do Pilar, sempre pensando que é um de esses lugares que faz com que o Porto seja especial e com algo único para oferecer a quem a conhece pela primeira vez. É lugar muito turístico, claro que sim porque é de visita obrigatória. Um lugar rico em história, tragédias, casas coloridas, hotéis, restaurantes e esplanadas.
Before strolling though the Cais da Ribeira streets we were contemplating one of the most interesting areas of the city from other viewpoints such as Vila Nova de Gaia or the Monastery of the Serra do Pilar, always thinking it’s one of those places that makes Oporto special and with something unique to offer to those who are seing it for the first time. It is very touristic place, of course it is because it’s a must see. A place rich in history, tragedies, colorful houses, hotels, restaurants and terraces.
Caminhando entre as suas ruas ainda mais estreitas pelas esplanadas que montam alguns cafés chegámos á Praça da Ribeira, rodeada dos edificios típicos da zona, casas estreitas e coloridas, pintadas ou com aplicação de azulejos. Na Fonte encontramos uma escultura de Cutileiro representando S. João Batista que foi ali colocada em 2000. Na parte superior vemos as casas construídas sobre as Muralhas Fernandinas onde encontramos o Postigo do Carvão. Um símbolo da prosperidade mercantil da cidade é hoje um lugar para aproveitar a vista sobre Gaia, a Ponte D. Luís I e a oferta gastronómica da cidade, há umas quantas “ratoeiras” mas há também alguns restaurantes típicos e modernos que representam o melhor do Porto.
Walking among its eve more narrow streets due to the café terraces we reached the Ribeira Square, surrounded by the typical local buildings, narrow and colorful houses, painted or covered in tiles. In Fountaing we find a Cutileiro sculpture representing St. John the Baptist which was placed there in 2000. At the top we see the houses built on the Muralhas (walls) Fernandinas where we find the Coal Postigo. A symbol of mercantile prosperity is now a place to enjoy the view of Gaia, of Dom Luis I Bridge and the culinary offerings of the city, there are many “tourist traps” but there are also some typical and trendy restaurants that represent the best of Oporto.
