Granada é famosa por ser o paraíso das tapas e é na realidade considerada a sua capital. Uma das suas casas mais míticas é a do Los Manueles na Rua dos Reis Católicos, existe desde 1917 ainda que num local novo. Quando li as críticas no Tripadvisor confesso que o tinha riscado da lista mas ao ter sido recomendado pelo recepcionista dos apartamentos onde estávamos pareceu-me boa ideia.
Granada is famous for being the paradise of tapas and is in fact considered its capital. One of its most mythical houses is the Los Manueles in the Reyes Católicos Street, there since 1917 although in a new location. When I read the reviews on Tripadvisor I confess that I had crossed it off the list but to have been recommended by the receptionist of the apartments where we were staying it seemed a good idea.
Mas antes temos que explicar a história das tapas, há várias e umas quantas lendas, dizem por exemplo que foi no reinado de Afonso X em que se obrigava a servir com o vinho um pequeno aperitivo normalmente enchidos ou queijo para que ajudar a reduzir o efeito do alcóol, que era servido num pequeno prato em cima do copo. Há ainda a história de Afonso XIII que terá pedido uma Jerez em Cádiz junto á praia e terá utilizado uma “tapa” para que não entrasse areia para o copo. Lendas á parte, no Los Manueles cumpre-se a tradição e quando pedes uma cerveja trazem-te uma tapa, ainda que com algum truque porque vem mais tarde o que te leva a pensar que não vão trazer e pedir algo pelo meio.

Como fomos jantar acabou por não haver problema e pedimos coisas que queríamos comer porque é verdade que no que diz respeito a tapas grátis não podes escolher o que te trazem. As três que trouxeram com as bebidas foram uma carne de porco guisada que estava óptima, umas salchichas com batatas fritas que vieram no fim quando já tínhamos pouca fome e uns pedaços de peixe frito com molho de tomate que é algo muito típico da zona de Andaluzia. Íamos com crianças por decidimos pedir umas tiras de frango que estava óptimas e foram um dos pratos favoritos, o presunto era da região e não é um Bellota mas não desiludia. Pedimos também uns chips de beringela, estaladiços aos quais faltou talvez um molho que terminámos por utilizar o das tiras. No final sobrou comida e pagámos pouco mais de quarenta euros, mais ou menos dez por pessoa se contamos com os miúdos.
As we went to dinner turned out to be no problem and ordered things we wanted to eat because it is true that when it comes to free tapas you can not choose what they will bring. The three that came with the drinks were a stewed pork that was fine, some sausages and chips which came at the end when we had little hungry and a few pieces of fried fish with tomato sauce which is very typical of the Andalusian zone. We were going with children so we decided to order some chicken strips which was great and were one of the favorites, the “jamón” was from the region and was no Bellota but did not disappoint. We also ordered the eggplant chips, crispy but perhaps lacked a sauce finished by using the strips. At the end we left over food and we paid just over forty euros, about ten per person if we count the kids.
