Hoje conhecemos…o estádio Panathinaiko em Atenas.
Também conhecido por Kallimarmamo por ter sido construído em mármore branco. Fica na zona do Jardim Nacional, antigamente conhecidos como reais e perto do Zappeion. Foi utilizado nos Jogos Olímpicos de 2004 e a estrutura que hoje existe já foi remodelada várias vezes e encontra-se no preciso local onde outrora esteve um estádio olímpico da Grécia antiga.
Today we have discovered… the Panathenaic stadium in Athens.
Also known as the Kallimarmamo because it was built in white marble. It is in the area of the National Garden, formerly known as royal and near the Zappeion. It was used in the 2004 Olympics and the structure that exists today has been remodeled several times and is in the very place where once was an Olympic stadium of ancient Greece.

Foi também aqui que os gregos vieram o ano passado celebrar a sua vitória no Campeonato Europeu de Futebol, ainda hoje me custa acredita que perdemos aquela final (e até eles!!!).
Mas há muito mais história neste estádio, séculos e até milénios…

Visitámos na mesma zona Zappeion um edificio que foi construído pela ocasião dos primeiros Jogos Olímpicos da era moderna que se realizaram em Atenas a 1896.
In the same área of Zappeion we visited a building that was built on the occasion of the first Olympic Games of the modern era held in Athens 1896.
Nos primeiros jogos olímpicos este foi o local dos eventos de esgrima e nos de Verão de 1906 foi utilizado como aldeia olímpica. Hoje em dia é utilizado como espaço de congressos ou eventos públicos.
In the first Olympics this was the location of fencing events and in the summer of 1906 was used as the Olympic Village. Nowadays it is used as a space for conferences or public events.
