Para despedir-nos de 2019 fizémos uma Road Trip pelo norte de Espanha entrando depois em França até Toulouse com os nossos três filhos. Viajar com crianças é um desafio e mais se são três com idades bem diferentes mas tudo é possível e esta será a primeira de muitase m familia. Arrancámos de Lisboa, passámos pelo norte de Espanha e entrámos em França pelo País Basco, fomos até Toulouse, uma cidade surpreendente e que vale mesmo a pena visitar. No regresso parámos em Baiona para celebrar o ano novo em Santander.
To say goodbye to 2019, we made a Road Trip through northern Spain, then entering France to Toulouse with our three children. Traveling with children is a challenge and more if there are three with very different ages but everything is possible and this will be the first of many in a family. We left Lisbon, passed through northern Spain and entered France through the Basque Country, went to Toulouse, an amazing city that is really worth visiting. On the way back we stopped in Baiona to celebrate the new year in Santander.

1. Lisboa
Lisboa foi o nosso ponto de partida depois de um Natal em familia. Será sempre a minha cidade favorita e onde sempre encontramos um porto de abrigo.
Lisbon was our starting point after a family Christmas. It will always be my favorite city and where we always find a haven.

2. Salamanca
É uma cidade óptima para conhecer uma parte da história de Castela, na sua Plaza Mayor está o coração que marca o ritmo para os resto das ruas. O seu centro histórico está quase todo interdito ao trânsito o que torna os passeios pela cidade ainda mais agradáveis. O seu conjunto de universidades históricas, a sua ponte romana e um edificio Art Déco tornam-na ainda mais interessante.
It is a great city to discover part of the history of Castile, in its Plaza Mayor is the heart that sets the pace for the rest of the streets. Its historic center is almost completely out of traffic, which makes city tours even more enjoyable. Its set of historic universities, its Roman bridge and an Art Deco building make it even more interesting.

3. San Sebastián
Tem tudo para ser perfeita: praia, montanha e uma cultura gastronómica que é uma festa constante. Adoramos San Sebastián, os seus bares de pintxos e a nova descoberta de este ano, a sua tarte de queijo.
It has everything to be perfect: beach, mountain and a gastronomic culture that is a constant party. We love San Sebastián, its pintxos bars and this year’s new discovery, its cheese cake.

4. Santuário de Lourdes
Chegámos já no final do dia e foi uma pena porque não pudémos ver o Santuário de Nossa Senhora de Lourdes com mais luz, ainda assim conseguimos entrar e ver como era por dentro. Não fomos experimentar as suas águas que dizem curar todos os males e seguimos caminho para Toulouse.
We arrived at the end of the day and it was a shame because we could not see the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora de Lourdes with more light, we still managed to get inside and see what it was like inside. We did not go to experience its waters that claim to cure all ills and we continue on our way to Toulouse.
5. Toulouse
Toulouse foi uma das grandes surpresas da viagem, tinha preparado bem a viagem e sabia que era uma cidade interessante mas só quando a visitámos apercebemo-nos que tem algo de especial. A “ville rose” pela cor dos seus edificios tem muita vida, uma gastronomia variada e as suas ruelas têm tanto charme que não parava de tirar-lhe fotos.
Toulouse was one of the great surprises of the trip, I had prepared the trip well and knew it was an interesting city but only when we visited it we realized that it has something special. The “ville rose” due to the color of its buildings has a lot of life, a varied gastronomy and its alleys have so much charm that I kept taking pictures of it.

6. Pau
Pau é pequena mas tem uma coisa que nem todas as cidades podem dizer: uma vista priveligiada para os Pirinéus. No seu centro havia mercados de Natal, fomos até ao seu Castelo e vimos a Catedral.
Pau is small but has something that not all cities can say: a privileged view of the Pyrenees. In its center there were Christmas markets, we went to its Castle and saw the Cathedral.
7. Baiona
Entrámos no País Basco francês e Baiona é a sua capital, construída entre dois rios, o mais largo é o Adour e o mais estreito que lhe dá o seu toque mais pitoresco é o Nive. Os seus edificios de portadas coloridas e as ruas cheias de charme fazem da cidade um destino obrigatório.
We entered the French Basque Country and Baiona is its capital, built between two rivers, the widest is Adour and the narrowest that gives it its most picturesque touch is the Nive. Its colorful door buildings and charming streets make the city a must-see destination.
8. Santander
Foi em Santander que celebrámos a entrada no ano de 2020. A cidade estava cheia de gente e com muita animação ainda do Natal. Parámos o carro durante três dias, não fez falta nenhuma para explorar os principais lugares de interesse da cidade.
It was in Santander that we celebrated our entry in the year 2020. The city was full of people and with a lot of excitement even at Christmas. We stopped the car for three days, there was no need to explore the main places of interest in the city.
9. Madrid
Voltámos á que chamamos agora, a “nossa” cidade e depois de desfazer as malas lanzámo-nos ao centro para descobrir alguma novidade gastronómica que tem para oferecer. Aproveitámos para ver ainda algumas das suas decorações de Natal que se mantêm até que cheguem os Reis.
We returned to what we now call “our” city and after unpacking we went to the center to discover some gastronomic novelty that it has to offer. We took the opportunity to see some of their Christmas decorations that will remain until the Kings arrive.
